Genki Sushi Singapore is the local arm of the Japanese Kaiten (revolving) sushi chain founded by Fumio Saito, operating a total of 21 outlets island-wide with more planned. The brand is built around Kaiten sushi — a concept Saito pioneered in December 1968, combining traditional sushi with a revolving conveyor belt.
Genki Sushi Singapore delivers food to diners via a Kousoku Train system, integrated with a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) ordering system that lets diners order on their own device and receive dishes via a speedy double-rail delivery system. Singapore was the first market outside Japan to operate a "Kousoku" Genki outlet, launching at Orchard Central in 2011.
The menu spans Dai Man Zoku sets, Nigiri Sushi, Aburi Sushi, Gunkan, Roll & Handroll, Sashimi, Appetisers, Sides, Rice & Noodles, Dessert and Takeaway Sushi Platters. Genki Sushi places a strong emphasis on its core ingredients: 100% premium Japanese rice directly imported from Japan for its shari, a specially formulated vinegar from Gifu Prefecture, and a premium shoyu produced by a maker with a 200-year history.
Beyond dine-in, Genki Sushi offers islandwide delivery direct through its own channels as well as via foodpanda and GrabFood, so sushi, sashimi and donburi cravings can be satisfied at home too.
Genki Sushi's story begins in Japan in 1968, with a 24-year-old sushi chef named Fumio Saito. Saito dreamed of a modern sushi restaurant built around an unusual idea: a 'Kaiten', or revolving, conveyor belt that could serve sushi directly to diners. In December 1968, he turned that dream into reality, pioneering Kaiten Sushi and combining traditional sushi craft with new technology.
Kaiten sushi quickly became a household name across Japan. Genki Sushi Co. Ltd was established in 1990 and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange the following year, expanding rapidly on the back of its reputation for freshness. In 1992, the brand moved into international markets, and today Genki Sushi operates in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kuwait, the Philippines, China, Australia, Cambodia, Thailand and Hawaii.
In 2008, Genki Sushi launched its first "Kousoku Express" store in Japan, a new way of getting orders to customers faster and fresher. Singapore played a special role in this next chapter: in 2011, Genki Sushi re-launched here at Orchard Central as the first sushi restaurant in the country to operate and deliver sushi via the Kousoku Express system — and the first "Kousoku" Genki outlet outside Japan. Diners could instantly order their favourite sushi on a wireless touch-screen panel and receive it via a speedy double-rail delivery system, a genuinely different way to eat sushi.
Genki Sushi Singapore now operates a total of 21 outlets island-wide, with more on the way. Dining today is built around the same idea Saito had in 1968, updated with current technology: food arrives at your table via a Kousoku Train system, and ordering is handled through a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) system, letting diners order directly from their own phones. The result, as the brand describes it, is a genuinely unconventional dining experience.
The menu is organised into clear categories: Dai Man Zoku (大滿足, "big satisfaction") sets for bigger appetites, classic Nigiri Sushi, flame-seared Aburi Sushi, Gunkan, Roll & Handroll, Sashimi, Appetisers, Sides, Rice & Noodles (donburi and noodle dishes), Dessert, and Takeaway Sushi Platters for those eating at home.
Behind the scenes, Genki Sushi is particular about its core ingredients. The shari (sushi rice) is 100% premium Japanese rice, imported directly from Japan for its texture and fragrance. The su (vinegar) comes from Gifu Prefecture, specially formulated to bring out the right balance of flavours for Singapore's palate. And the shoyu (soy sauce) comes from a producer with a 200-year history. The brand's stated mission is to bring an authentic, professional sushi dining experience while staying committed to value for money, without compromising on quality.
Beyond dine-in, Genki Sushi offers islandwide delivery through its own channels, as well as through foodpanda and GrabFood, so cravings for sushi, sashimi and donburi can be satisfied without leaving home. The brand is also actively hiring across its outlets, for both full-time and part-time kitchen and service roles, with no experience required, on-the-job training, medical and dental benefits, meal allowances and sales incentives on offer. Prospective staff are encouraged to speak to an outlet manager directly, or call the recruitment line on 9617 7033.
