Kolkata Beckons is a Bengali restaurant on Race Course Road in Singapore, part of the Fifth Season Group of Restaurants founded by Deepali Ray. Described as a 'Concoction of Bengal's Heritage', the restaurant showcases how Bengali cuisine has absorbed Mughal, British, Dutch, French and other influences over the centuries, reimagined here with techniques like sous-vide and air-fry alongside home-blended spices, aiming for authenticity with balance.
The restaurant is a 4.7-star Google-rated Bengali restaurant in Singapore, noted for its consistency and tradition. The menu spans fish, chicken, mutton and prawn dishes, with a strong focus on mustard-based Bengali specialties such as Ilish Maach (hilsa), Pabda Maach and Daab Chingri, alongside biryanis, luchi and paratha-based dishes, and traditional sweets. A curated Bangla Bhoj offers a culturally rich, multi-course Bengali feast with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
Kolkata Beckons follows a philosophy of respecting diverse dietary preferences by not serving pork, lard, or beef; however, as the restaurant does serve alcoholic beverages, it does not hold halal certification. Kolkata Beckons is one of three Fifth Season Group restaurants, alongside Tangra Chinese (Indo-Chinese cuisine) and DIPU (Indian-Persian fusion), all founded by Deepali Ray, a Chartered Accountant and Cost Accountant with a Master's degree in Commerce from the University of Calcutta who moved to Singapore in 1998 and later transitioned from finance into the restaurant industry.

Kolkata Beckons is the work of Deepali Ray, founder director of the Fifth Season Group of Restaurants. A Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant, and holder of a Master's degree in Commerce from the University of Calcutta, Deepali moved to Singapore in 1998 and initially worked in senior Finance and Business Development roles across multinational companies and government projects. Her path into food began not in a professional kitchen, but through watching colleagues separate themselves at lunch over dietary restrictions — sparking a vision for cuisine that could bring everyone to the same table. That vision led first to Tangra Chinese in 2006, inspired by East Kolkata's own Chinatown, and later to Kolkata Beckons itself.
Kolkata Beckons' menu spans fish, chicken, mutton, prawn and vegetarian dishes, with a strong focus on Bengal's mustard-based specialties. Daab Chingri — prawn prepared in a mustard and tender coconut style — and Joda Ilish, featuring hilsa fish, sit alongside comfort classics like Luchi Kosha Mangsho (fried bread with slow-cooked mutton curry) and Mutton Biryani. Other dishes on offer include Shukto, Cholar Dal, Chingri Chop, Fish Fry, Khichuri, and a range of bhaja (fried) preparations like Begun Bhaja and Potol Bhaja.
For a deeper dive into Bengali tradition, Kolkata Beckons offers a curated Bangla Bhoj — a culturally rich feast bringing together vegetarian and non-vegetarian options including fish, chicken, mutton and prawn, alongside signature mustard-based dishes such as Ilish Maach, Pabda Maach, and Daab Chingri.
For those with a sweet tooth, Kolkata Beckons offers Bengal's Baked Delights — a baked take on classic Bengali sweets including Roshogulla, Sandesh and Chom Chom — currently available as a special introductory offer priced at $59.90.
