Filadelfio's Gardens is a gourmet pizza restaurant and bar in Dunedin, part of the wider Filadelfio's chain. The concept began when the original owner, a Kiwi with deep hospitality experience, took a trip to New York, sampled gourmet pizzas and quirky bars, and returned home to open Filadelfio's Restaurant & Bar at 3 North Road in 1995.

In 1998, Logan and Jo Beck purchased the successful restaurant and expanded it into a franchise with branches in Dunedin and Oamaru. Today Filadelfio's is known as a 'Kiwi loved' spot that welcomes everyone from the local student crowd to families and workmates, built around a New York-inspired atmosphere.

Filadelfio's Gardens brings a New York-inspired take on gourmet pizza to Dunedin, tracing back to a single trip across the Pacific. The original owner, an experienced Kiwi hospitality operator, sampled gourmet pizzas and relaxed in the quirky bars of New York, and came home convinced he was onto something.

From one restaurant to a franchise

He opened Filadelfio's Restaurant & Bar at 3 North Road in 1995. A few years later, in 1998, Logan and Jo Beck bought the already-successful restaurant and grew it into a franchise, with branches spreading to Dunedin and Oamaru. Today, Filadelfio's is described as a popular New Zealand chain that welcomes everyone from the local student crowd to families and workmates alike.

A menu built for everyone

The pizza menu runs from Classics like the Margarita and Hawaiian through to house Favourites such as the Chicken pizza — cranberry sauce and brie cheese — which is called out as the restaurant's specialty. Quirkier names like Curious George (chicken, bacon, banana and brie) and Lewinsky sit alongside a dedicated Vegan pizza and a Vegetarian Works option. The Premium range leans further into gourmet territory, with the Indonesian (king prawns, shrimps and peanuts on satay sauce) and Moroccan Lamb standing out.

Beyond pizza, the menu covers pasta dishes like Chili Garlic Prawns and Pasta Carbonara, salads, nachos, burgers, and a full starters list including seafood chowder and crumbed prawns. Gluten-free pizza bases and gluten-free pasta are both available for an extra charge, and staff ask to be told of any food allergies.

Groups, happy hour and special days

For larger groups of 12 or more, a set menu is available covering garlic bread, wedges and pizza per head. Filadelfio's Gardens also runs a Happy Hour from Wednesday to Friday, 5pm to 7pm, and opens on ANZAC Day from 4pm with no surcharge.

Filadelfio's Gardens is located at Gardens Corner, 3-5 North Road, Dunedin. It's closed Mondays, open from 4pm Tuesday to Friday, and from midday on Saturday and Sunday. Tables can be booked by phone, and eGift cards are available for those wanting to give the gift of pizza.
