This Montessori preschool is at 33 Maxwell Street in Riccarton, Christchurch, near the Riccarton Racecourse. It is a privately run centre for children aged 2 to 6, licensed for 27 children. It blends the Montessori method, adapted to young New Zealand children, with the Te Whāriki early childhood curriculum. It is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm.
The centre says it keeps a low child-to-teacher ratio, and that all its teachers are registered and fully qualified in early childhood education. The centre manager is fully qualified in Montessori education, and two teachers are in training. The team encourages children's independence and says it values all cultures. The building has been renovated in recent years to give more open-plan space.
Parents are welcome to drop in at any time, and the centre consults them about what suits each child. Open Locally counts five other childcare listings within a kilometre.
