The Patriot is a licensed English-themed pub in the heart of Devonport, Auckland, set inside the original historic Bank of New Zealand building on Victoria Road — just 15 minutes from Auckland City via the Devonport Ferry. The pub opened in 2004 under the Brogan brothers and has since built a supportive local and international following for its wide range of New Zealand and international beverages, its good-quality, easy-going menu and its regular live entertainment and live sport screenings. In early 2019 the business was purchased by Mylam and Liz Sloan, who also own additional hospitality businesses at Auckland Airport; Mylam is a born-and-raised Devonport local and a keen supporter of community groups, schools and the Navy.
In the kitchen it is traditional pub meals with a twist, served from lunch through to dinner seven days a week, with famous daily specials, a dedicated kids menu and takeaway available. Behind the bar you will find more than 14 specialty beers on tap — including Guinness, Kilkenny, Tennents, Stella and Heineken — plus craft pilsners, IPAs and APAs from Emersons, Panhead and Little Creatures. Tuesday quiz nights, a KILLER pool competition and the Auckland FC Patriots Supporters Club keep the regulars coming back, and reservations are always welcome at this home away from home.

Mylam — formerly an airline pilot — is about as local as it gets: he was born in the old Pentlands maternity hospital, situated almost directly behind the pub in Buchanan Street, and went through Devonport Primary, Belmont Intermediate and Takapuna Grammar. Liz brought senior sales and retail experience, including time as NZ Manager of Portmans and Commercial Retail Manager for Auckland Airport. Together they support local groups, schools and the Navy, and they are always striving to be better at what they do. Pop in and, as they promise, you will always be warmly welcomed.
