Rich & Good Cake Shop has been bringing home-baked goodness to Singapore since 1997, when it first opened in the heartlands with a simple mission: to share lovingly handmade cakes made the traditional way. The City Square Mall store is the bakery's fourth and newest outlet, tucked into the Little India heritage district on Kitchener Road.
The journey here has been a steady rise. In 1999 the shop moved to the heritage shophouses of Kandahar Street in Kampong Glam, growing organically through word of mouth as the historic district developed. Later came Jewel Changi Airport — its first step into a shopping mall — then Marina Bay Link Mall in 2023, before Little India welcomed the team less than a month later. Through it all, the promise of handmade traditional rolls has stayed in the dedicated hands of the bakers who have stood by the shop through thick and thin.
Everything is baked fresh daily in small batches, using the finest of ingredients and the shop's traditional recipe. The signature is the kaya: slow cooked for four hours with fresh pandan leaves to yield a fragrant pandan kaya filling the bakery proudly calls uniquely Singaporean. Beyond the rolls you'll find celebration, chiffon and walnut whole cakes, cookie boxes, and packages made for weddings and a baby's first month.
Visit in store with no reservations needed, or order through the website for delivery — just choose an available date and time slot before checkout, as slots go on a first come, first served basis.
Rich & Good Cake Shop has spent nearly three decades doing one thing exceptionally well: handmade Swiss rolls, baked fresh in small batches every day. The City Square Mall outlet on Kitchener Road brings that tradition into the Little India heritage district, and it is the bakery's fourth and newest outlet. Whether you drop by for a classic kaya roll or order a whole cake for a celebration, everything follows the same house philosophy the shop has held since 1997 — "bring home baked goodness to everyone."
The story starts in the Singapore heartlands in 1997, where Rich & Good opened with a simple mission and a focus on Swiss Rolls. Every cake was — and still is — lovingly handmade using a traditional recipe and the finest of ingredients, baked fresh in small batches daily.
In 1999 the bakery moved out of the heartlands to the heritage shophouses of Kandahar Street in Kampong Glam, growing organically through word of mouth as the historic district developed around it. The second outlet at Jewel Changi Airport marked its first step into a shopping mall — a leap of faith out of the rustic shophouse, complete with a rebrand.
2023 brought two more openings in quick succession. Marina Bay Link Mall in the central business district became the third outlet, where the team introduced an expanded menu with breakfast and tea-time items as well as kopi and teh. Less than a month later, the fourth and newest outlet was welcomed into the warm and vibrant Little India heritage district at City Square Mall — the branch you'll find on level B2 today.
Along the way the shop celebrated 25 years in 2022, a milestone marked by the same team of bakers who have stood by the handmade rolls through thick and thin.
Swiss rolls are the heart of Rich & Good. The Kaya Swiss Roll is the defining classic: a soft roll wrapped around the shop's signature pandan kaya, slow cooked for four hours with fresh pandan leaves to yield a fragrant filling the bakery calls uniquely Singaporean. The Red Velvet Swiss Roll is another staple of the classic range, and seasonal rolls rotate through the year.
Ah Ma's Kaya Cake takes that same slow-cooked kaya and builds it into a whole cake — a hot bestseller for family gatherings. Chocolate Bueno and Red Velvet Crumble round out the celebration cake line-up, while chiffon and walnut cakes offer lighter, old-school options.
There is more to the counter than rolls and cakes. Cookie boxes — Almond Squares, Chocolate Chip and Pistachio Cornflakes — make easy gifts and teatime treats. For life's bigger moments, Rich & Good prepares baby packages in Regular, Classic and Premium tiers to celebrate a baby's first month, plus wedding packages including the Regular Swiss Roll in a Wedding Box and a Wedding Assortment Box. Seasonal specials appear for festivals, with a Chinese New Year range listed as coming soon.
Walk-ins are welcome with no reservations needed — just head to B2-21 in City Square Mall. If you'd rather have the cakes come to you, the website handles delivery orders only: choose an available date and time before checkout, keeping in mind that slots are allocated first come, first served, and delivery is unavailable to some postal codes. Because classics are baked in small batches daily, popular flavours can run low — going earlier in the day gives you the best pick of the display chiller.
Nearly thirty years in, the promise hasn't changed. From heartland counters to a heritage shophouse to a mall basement in Little India, Rich & Good still bakes the way it began: small batches, traditional recipes, and kaya given all the time it needs.
