South Coast Physiotherapy is a locally owned clinic on The Parade in the heart of Island Bay, proudly supporting the South Wellington community. The team's philosophy is simple: physiotherapy designed for you — first-class treatment built around your goals, whether that's returning to high-performance sport or simply waking up pain-free in the morning.
The clinic offers comprehensive, world-class care to people of all ages and backgrounds in an accessible and welcoming environment. Every client collaborates with their physiotherapist on an individualised treatment plan grounded in the latest research, clinical expertise, and personal preferences. Services span surgical rehabilitation, elite sport rehabilitation, spinal care, pain management, general injury rehabilitation, osteoarthritis care, ACL rehab and injury prevention, plus imaging and specialist referral.
As registered ACC providers, no referral is needed to be seen — the team can lodge your ACC claims for you. Appointment options include 45-minute initial consultations, 30-minute follow-ups, telehealth appointments, and home visits. The clinic's physiotherapists — Callum Law, Julie Gillmor and Griffin Gillanders — bring advanced qualifications and diverse experience, from children and older adults through to regional and national sports teams and high-performance athletes.
On The Parade in Island Bay, just a stone's throw from Wellington's south coast, South Coast Physiotherapy has built its reputation on a simple promise: physiotherapy designed for you. Whether your goal is returning to high-performance sport or waking up pain-free in the morning, the locally owned clinic offers first-class treatment built around the individual, not a template.
The team believes everyone deserves high-quality care. Every client — of any age or background — works collaboratively with their physiotherapist to create an individualised treatment plan grounded in the latest research, clinical expertise, and their own personal preferences.
Proudly supporting the South Wellington community it calls home, the clinic offers an accessible and welcoming environment for anyone suffering from pain or injury. Its service list is broad and deep: surgical rehabilitation before and after joint replacements and sports or spinal surgeries; spinal care for back and neck pain; pain management that aims for instant and lasting relief; general injury rehabilitation for sprains, strains and fractures; osteoarthritis care; and imaging and specialist referral when X-rays, ultrasounds, injections or specialist input are needed.
Sport is a particular strength. The team has a broad history of treating elite athletes and describes its specialty as bridging the gap between rehabilitation and performance. Their ACL rehab and injury prevention programmes draw on evidence-based approaches shown to reduce the risk of ACL injuries by up to 68%, all knee injuries by 50%, hamstring and adductor injuries by 42%, and ankle injuries by 40%.
As registered ACC providers, no referral is needed to be seen — and the team lodges your ACC claims for you.
Callum Law was raised in Island Bay and feels privileged to support the community he grew up in. He holds a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (2017), a Postgraduate Diploma (2021) and a Master's in Physiotherapy (2022), all with distinction, and was awarded the Stanley Paris Scholarship and the Mark Stepoe Award as top of his class. Certified in orthopaedic manipulative therapy and dry needling, he has published research on cultural safety in healthcare and adductor injury prevention in football. Most Saturdays you'll find him as physiotherapist for regional and national sports teams — or searching for a lost ball at Berhampore golf course.
Julie Gillmor brings over a decade of clinical experience. Originally from Ireland, she graduated from Trinity College in 2015 before moving to Aotearoa, where she has worked with everyone from persistent pain clients to regional and national rugby teams and high-performance athletes. She completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Physiotherapy at the University of Otago in 2021 and has a special interest in persistent pain conditions.
Griffin Gillanders, a former international squash player for Ireland, completed her Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy in the Netherlands. She works with a wide range of clients and has a particular strength in helping older adults build confidence, improve mobility, and stay active and independent.
Initial appointments run 45 minutes, with 30-minute follow-ups, so there is genuine time to assess, diagnose and treat properly. Treatment may include therapeutic exercise, joint mobilisation and manipulation, soft tissue techniques, dry needling and strapping. Telehealth appointments and home visits are also available, and appointment times can be changed to best meet clients' needs.
Online booking is the preferred route — you can see the diary and choose a time that suits. If you can't find what you need, email or text the clinic: they can often provide urgent bookings within 24 hours or add you to a waitlist. With advanced qualifications, elite sport experience, and a warm local welcome, South Coast Physiotherapy has become a trusted home for recovery on Wellington's south coast.
