About Miramar Physiotherapy

Miramar Physiotherapy has been serving Wellington's Eastern Suburbs from its clinic on Broadway, opposite Crawford Green, for more than 25 years. The practice is owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Paul Kuggeleijn and Julie Norris, who have run the clinic since 2001 and built it around a patient-centred philosophy of care.

Paul and Julie believe every patient's problem matters, and the team is committed to looking beyond symptoms to understand the underlying causes of an injury or condition, working with other health professionals where needed. The clinic was awarded Accreditation status in 2004 and has continually maintained its Accreditation and Certification against the Allied Health Services Sector Standards and ACC Requirements for Physiotherapy Services, allowing it to hold an Allied Health Services contract with ACC. It is also a Southern Cross provider, a Careway provider, and a member of Physiotherapy New Zealand (PNZ) and the New Zealand Manipulative Physiotherapists Association (NZMMP).

The clinical team includes senior physiotherapists Paul Kuggeleijn (over 34 years in private practice, with postgraduate qualifications in manipulative therapy and acupuncture) and Julie Norris (over 37 years' experience in New Zealand and the UK, holding a Diploma in Manipulative Therapy), alongside Rhys Mischewski, a University of Otago graduate with an advanced postgraduate certificate in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy, and Gloria Singh, who is fluent in English and Hindi. Paul and Rhys are physiotherapists for the Miramar Rangers Premier Men's football team, and the clinic proudly supports the local sporting community, working with athletes from weekend warriors to competitive level.

The clinic treats a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions caused by sport, work, accidents, poor posture, overuse or general wear and tear, using an individualised, evidence-based approach focused on long-term results.

Miramar Physiotherapy: 25+ Years of Community-Focused Care in Wellington's Eastern Suburbs

On Broadway in Miramar, opposite Crawford Green, Miramar Physiotherapy has been part of Wellington's Eastern Suburbs for more than 25 years. The clinic is owned and run by husband-and-wife team Paul Kuggeleijn and Julie Norris, who have operated the practice since 2001 and built it into a trusted local name for injury recovery, pain relief and performance-focused physiotherapy.

A Patient-Centred Philosophy

Paul and Julie's approach centres on the belief that every patient's problem matters. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, the team looks for the underlying causes of an injury or condition, and works with other health professionals where that helps deliver the best outcome. This philosophy has underpinned the clinic since it opened, and remains central to how the team, now including Rhys Mischewski and Gloria Singh, approaches every appointment.

Accredited, ACC-Recognised Care

Miramar Physiotherapy was awarded Accreditation status in 2004 and has continually maintained its Accreditation and Certification against the Allied Health Services Sector Standards and ACC Requirements for Physiotherapy Services. That accreditation allows the clinic to hold an Allied Health Services contract with ACC, giving patients confidence their care meets nationally recognised standards. The clinic is also a Southern Cross provider, a Careway provider, and BSI certified, and its clinicians are members of Physiotherapy New Zealand (PNZ) and the New Zealand Manipulative Physiotherapists Association (NZMMP).

What They Treat

The clinic treats a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions arising from sport, work, accidents, poor posture, overuse or general wear and tear. This spans back, neck and spine issues such as back pain, sciatica, whiplash and headaches; hip, knee and lower limb conditions including ligament and meniscus injuries, ankle sprains and plantar fasciitis; shoulder, arm and upper limb problems such as rotator cuff injuries and tennis or golfer's elbow; and other conditions including arthritis and post-surgical rehabilitation.

How Treatment Works

A first appointment runs for 40 minutes, giving the physiotherapist time to understand the injury, health history and goals before carrying out a thorough assessment. From there, the team builds a treatment plan that is individualised, evidence-based and focused on long-term results, drawing on techniques such as joint mobilisation, spinal manipulation, massage and soft tissue therapy, exercise programmes, posture and muscle balance correction, strapping and taping, radial shockwave therapy, acupuncture, ultrasound therapy, Formthotics orthotic insoles, bracing and supports, and both post-surgical and sports-specific rehabilitation. Not every technique is used for every patient — the physiotherapist selects what suits the individual's condition, stage of recovery and goals. Where further investigation is needed, the clinic can refer directly for X-ray or ultrasound imaging, or to an appropriate specialist.

A Team Rooted in the Community

Paul has over 34 years of private practice experience and postgraduate qualifications in manipulative therapy and acupuncture, while Julie brings over 37 years' experience across New Zealand and the UK and a strong interest in posture-related conditions and women's health. Rhys Mischewski, a University of Otago graduate, has completed an advanced postgraduate certificate in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy, and Gloria Singh, originally from Fiji, provides personalised care and is fluent in English and Hindi. Paul and Rhys are the physiotherapists for the Miramar Rangers Premier Men's football team, reflecting the clinic's long-standing support for local sport, working with everyone from weekend warriors to competitive athletes.
