This mandate has led the practice to run a monthly health, wellness and nutrition group that counsels patients across every aspect of their lives, focusing on health rather than illness. The practice believes medical excellence encompasses the physical, spiritual, psychological and family health of patients, based on the Te Whare Tapa Whā framework.
Capital Care's GP services cover chronic illness management, minor surgery, health checks, driving and insurance medicals, travel medicine, sexual health checks, free pregnancy testing and support, and ACC injuries. Its experienced nursing team offers one-on-one consultations covering blood pressure checks, wound management, smears and sexual health screening (free for patients 19 and under), contraceptive services, immunisations, long-term condition support, and diabetes and cardiovascular risk assessments including ECGs.
As a practice, Capital Care embraces Wairua — the whole person, body, soul and spirit — recognising that patients sometimes need extra support beyond medical care. This includes a Community Support Worker based at the practice one day a week, a partnership with Elim Church for social and pastoral support when requested, and advice around abuse, pregnancy, and elderly or caregiver needs.
Capital Care believes healthcare should be available to everyone, and tries to keep its fees low. It also runs a discretionary pay-it-forward scheme, funded by patients, to help others who struggle to cover medical costs, subject to criteria.
Patients can sign up for the Manage My Health patient portal, offering a fast and secure way to book appointments, request repeat prescriptions, view lab results, access consultation notes, manage immunisations and recalls, send secure messages to their doctor, and view their health summary online.
Capital Care Health Centre is located at 35 Tennyson Street, Te Aro, Wellington, open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5:30pm, and closed on weekends and public holidays. The practice is Cornerstone accredited.
