Gear Street Union is a bar and restaurant set in the old Wellington Motorcycles building at 18 Gear Street, Petone. Part of Star Group — one of Aotearoa's largest hospitality operators, with over 50 venues across the North Island — GSU brings together unique taptails, craft cocktails, a large wine and beer selection, and a menu built around snacks, dirty buns, brunch, and dinner mains.

The venue is proudly dog-friendly, welcoming furry friends any time you pop in for a pint. Between 3–4pm daily, the kitchen switches to a snack-only menu, so it's worth timing a full meal visit outside that window. One of the first things GSU wants visitors to know: dogs are always welcome. It's a rare and genuine drawcard — nothing beats a pint, or a party, with your pooch in tow, and the venue leans into it with a Sunday deal offering free puppaccinos for the dogs who come along.

From Brunch to Dinner

The food menu covers a lot of ground. Snacks range from Gear Street Fries and Chilli Nachos to Reloaded Fries piled with beef brisket and tobacco onion, and a four-cheese Mac Daddy Skillet with burnt pork belly ends. The Dirty Buns section is home to GSU's standout burgers — The Cluckerson (crispy fried chicken thigh with sriracha aioli), The American Muscle (a smashed beef patty loaded with Texas brisket), and a plant-based Plant Patty for anyone wanting a meat-free option.
