A good massage therapist begins by asking about your health, any injuries and what you want from the session, whether that is relaxation or relief from a sore back, neck or shoulders. Chinese massage, often called tuina, uses pressure, kneading and stretching along muscles and joints, so let the therapist know how firm you like it and speak up if it becomes too much. Wear comfortable clothing, avoid a heavy meal beforehand and mention pregnancy, recent surgery, blood-thinning medication or any medical condition before starting. Drinking water afterwards is a habit regulars keep, and a few sessions close together often help more than a single visit. Booking ahead is wise for weekends and busy times.
