At the heart of the salon is Teo, founder and director of Shambhala Hair Design. Her career began in the late 1980s, training under Paul Serville in Auckland, where she earned national awards for her skilled cutting and photography work. As part of the Servilles creative team she presented workshops and shows alongside some of New Zealand's most talented hairstylists, then returned to Christchurch to join the team at Sepulchre, one of the city's premier salons. Stints establishing herself in Melbourne and South East Asia followed before she returned home to New Zealand in 2000.
Shambhala opened at its original High Street location in 2004. After the 2011 earthquake Teo relocated the salon to Swan Lake in Cashmere, then spent six years in the Boxed Quarter on Saint Asaph Street, before settling into its current, peaceful home in Opawa. Along the way she has been recognised as a Master Stylist, and she brings that same holistic approach to every client who sits in her chair.
Teo is joined by senior stylists Andrew, Cheri, Elsje, Viv, DeAnna and Emily — a seasoned crew with a wealth of experience whose passion is crafting personalised looks that enhance your natural beauty. Salon assistant Madi keeps every appointment running seamlessly.
