Sublime Hair Studio is a boutique hair and beauty salon in Christchurch's city centre, founded by Paula, a Master Stylist with over 30 years of international experience trained in Germany and with some of Europe's most respected hair specialists. The studio positions itself as more than a hair salon — a one-stop space for expert colour and care alongside brow, lash and facial services.
Colour work is a particular focus, spanning precision colour corrections, bespoke blonding and balayage, always with an emphasis on protecting hair integrity. The team works with brands including Pureology, Wella, L'Oreal, Olaplex, La Biosthetic and Moroccanoil, and every colour or restyle service begins with a personalised consultation so pricing and approach are tailored to the client's hair.
Beyond hair, Sublime offers brow shaping, tinting and lamination, lash lifts and tints, and a range of facials and skincare treatments. The studio is also a Sustainable Salons partner, recycling foils, colour waste, hair clippings, metals, paper and plastics — chemical waste is neutralised into recycled water, hair clippings are packed into oil-spill booms, ponytails of 20cm or more are donated to wig-making charities, and proceeds from recycled metals and paper go to OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest.
Tucked into Christchurch's city centre on High Street, Sublime Hair Studio brings a European approach to colour, cutting and beauty to New Zealand. At its helm is Paula, Founder and Master Stylist, who trained with some of Europe's most respected hair specialists and brings over 30 years of international experience to every appointment.
Colour is where Sublime says it delivers some of its finest work — from precision colour corrections to bespoke blonding and balayage. The studio's approach blends technical expertise with personalised care, built on the belief that stunning colour results should never come at the cost of hair health. Every colour service is designed to protect, preserve, and elevate the hair's condition rather than push it to its limits.
The colour menu covers the full spectrum: full colour for regrowth of 2cm or more, retouches for smaller regrowth, standalone or combined toners, and colour corrections priced upon consultation. For those chasing dimension, foils range from a T-section through to a full head, alongside balayage — hand-painted for a soft, blended look — with final pricing confirmed after a consultation and strand test.
Beyond colour, Sublime offers a full styling menu, from a woman's shape and style through to creative restyles, men's and children's cuts, and blow waves categorised by hair length. For weddings and special occasions, the studio offers hair-up styling, bridal hairstyling with a trial/preview option, and special occasion or bridal makeup.
Sublime also builds hair health into the experience itself, with Olaplex treatments (standalone or added into a colour service), hair masks, and a set of signature 'Rituals' — Amino Refiller, Hydra Emulsion, Repair Emulsion, and Anti-Ox Colour — each designed to restore and protect hair alongside chemical services like colour and bleach.
Sublime treats brows, lashes and skin with the same precision as hair. The brow menu covers shaping, tinting and lamination, while lash services include lifts and tints — often paired together in brow-and-lash duos for a coordinated finish. On the skincare side, the studio offers facial cleansing (including an ultrasound option), dermaplaning, a signature peeling treatment, express facials, an anti-ageing peptide treatment, and a dedicated skincare consultation where a client's skin is assessed and a tailored routine prescribed with ongoing support.
Sublime is a proud Sustainable Salons partner, and sustainability runs through how the studio operates day to day. Foils, colour wastage, and cut hair are all recycled; chemical waste from colour and bleach is collected separately and sent to specialised facilities where it's neutralised into recycled water used in construction and roadworks. Hair swept from the salon floor is packed into booms that help soak up ocean oil spills, and ponytails of 20cm or more are donated to charities that craft wigs for people affected by cancer or alopecia. Aluminium foils, colour tubes, cans, cardboard and paper are repurposed or sold for recycling, with proceeds donated to OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest, while plastics are cleaned and upcycled into products like combs, plant pots, and furniture.
Sublime Hair Studio is located at 171 High Street, Christchurch, 8011, open Monday to Wednesday 8.30am–5pm, Thursday 8.30am–8pm, Friday 8.30am–9pm, and Saturday 8am–6pm. Appointments can be booked online, and Afterpay is accepted for those wanting to spread the cost of their visit.
