Ilam Montessori Preschool is a childcare centre at 169 Ilam Road in Ilam, Christchurch, holding a perfect 5.0 rating on Google. Montessori preschools differ from an ordinary daycare in ways worth knowing before you visit: rooms are typically mixed-age, children choose their own work from hands-on materials, and teachers guide rather than direct, so a good centre feels calm and purposeful rather than noisy and scheduled to the minute. When comparing centres, it helps to ask how teachers observe and record each child's progress, and to watch whether the children are settled and absorbed in what they are doing. Montessori centres tend to be small, so waiting lists are common and early enquiry pays off. For Ilam families, this five-star-rated preschool puts that approach within easy reach on Ilam Road, close to the University of Canterbury.
