About Mona Vale Bath House

Historic riverside gardens and a restored homestead on the banks of the Avon in Riccarton, Christchurch. The gardens cover 5.5 hectares, and visitors can wander them, then stop for brunch, lunch, morning tea or the house's well-known High Tea in the homestead. The homestead reopened in December 2016 after a two-year, $3.2 million rebuild and strengthening project, and the venue also hosts weddings, events and meetings. Walk-ins are welcome, though bookings are recommended on busier days. Customers describe the gardens as beautiful, peaceful and well kept, a good place for a relaxing walk or photos, and a hidden gem in Riccarton. One visitor praised the friendly cafe staff and recommended the feijoa tea. The bath house was built between 1905 and 1914 by Annie Townend, the property's owner, to resemble the conservatory at Glenmark Station.
