Tax Link Christchurch is a tax and accounting firm at Unit 1, Level 1, 275 Cashel Street, Christchurch, founded in 1991 by Bruce McDowell after he ran an H&R Block franchise. Bruce went on to help form the national Tax Link network and has served as its Chairman for over 30 years, giving the Christchurch office the backing of a 15-office national network while remaining a local team.
The firm handles tax preparation for individuals, sole traders, partnerships, companies and trusts (IR3s through IR7s), GST returns, rental property tax, trusts and estates, IRD compliance issues, and bookkeeping support for Xero and MYOB users. Clients range from salary earners with secondary income through to rental property owners, small businesses, trusts, self-employed people and non-residents earning New Zealand income while living overseas.
Tax Link's approach is built around plain-English explanations, the same accountant working with a client year after year, and fees based on complexity and time rather than income or refund size. As an ATAINZ-accredited firm with IRD Extension of Time status, being a client also extends the standard filing deadline from July to the following March - over eight extra months.
The current team includes Bruce McDowell (Manager & Chairman, a Taxation Accountant and ATAINZ member since 1982), Senior Accountant Kitty Yuen (with over 15 years at Tax Link and 20+ years of accounting experience, fluent in English and Cantonese), Chartered Accountant Chris McDonald (20+ years in practice, including prior experience at Inland Revenue), Senior Accountant Jason McFadden (20+ years with Tax Link and a former accounting lecturer), Senior Accountant Joe McDowell (the team's go-to for Xero and MYOB setup), and Senior Accountant Nadia McDowell (a qualified Barrister and Solicitor specialising in overseas income, trusts and estates).
