MIYU (実柚 ~みゆ~) is a dedicated Japanese omakase restaurant at Dempsey Hill, Singapore, serving an Edomae-style menu built around ingredients air-flown fresh from Toyosu Market each week. The name Miyu combines the characters for kindness (実) and citrus fruit (柚), and reflects the restaurant's stated sincerity in serving its guests — fine omakase at what the team calls sincerest prices.
The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Owner Ng Kam Kwan, who brings more than 22 years of Japanese culinary experience, including time at Hide Yamamoto and Kacyo. His cooking follows the Edomae tradition — precisely seasoned shari (sushi rice) and carefully aged fish — and the Japanese principle of shun, building each menu around whatever is at its peak that week. No two visits are quite the same.
Sittings are intimate and unhurried, with attentive service, sake and wine pairings, and courses composed with care in both food and ceramics. The restaurant welcomes business lunches, romantic dinners and gatherings of friends, and offers private dining and events. Diners on Quandoo have rated it 5.8 out of 6.
Tucked into the greenery of Dempsey Hill — one of Singapore's most iconic dining enclaves, just a short 10-minute drive from Orchard Road and the CBD — MIYU (実柚 ~みゆ~) is a dedicated Japanese omakase restaurant that has welcomed guests to Dempsey Road since 2019. The name itself carries the restaurant's philosophy: it combines the Japanese characters for kindness (実) and citrus fruit (柚), and the team reads Miyu as a sign of sincerity in serving every guest.
Omakase means "I leave it to you" — a dining tradition in which the chef selects and composes each course. At MIYU, that trust is placed in Executive Chef Owner Ng Kam Kwan, whose menus are built each week around the finest seasonal produce arriving from Japan's Toyosu Market.
Chef Kwan brings more than 22 years of Japanese culinary expertise to the counter. He began at Sushi Jyo and trained through some of Singapore's most acclaimed Japanese restaurants, including Tsukiji Sushidai, Hide Yamamoto and Kacyo, developing an authoritative command of Edomae-zushi — the historic Tokyo style of sushi-making that demands mastery of every element, from the precise seasoning of the shari (sushi rice) to the careful ageing of fish to deepen umami.
He is supported by Sous Chef Cheng Wee Jian, whose background includes Yamazaki, Leon and Chojiro, and Restaurant Manager Kuan Min Sheng, who oversees daily operations. The restaurant was founded by Tan Xu Teng, a well-known industry veteran.
What decides the menu at MIYU is shun — the Japanese principle of peak-season cooking. From sakura masu in spring to rich autumn uni, the menu reflects whatever is freshest at Toyosu Market that week, air-flown directly to Singapore. Because the offerings change with the season's harvest, no two visits are the same; regulars describe each sitting as a journey through Japan's culinary calendar.
Alongside the sushi progression, the kitchen's hot items add warmth and range: silky shirako chawanmushi, delicate tempura, seasonal wagyu and king crab courses, and the popular hanabi maguro uni rice with onsen egg. Visual care extends to every plate — the arrangement of ingredients, the choice of ceramics and the pacing of courses are all part of the experience.
MIYU is a humble, cosy room built around an intimate counter experience. The team guides diners through each course, with sake and wine pairings available to complement the flavours of the season. It is a setting that suits a business lunch, a romantic dinner or a day out with friends — and, for larger occasions, MIYU also offers private dining and events.
Verified diners on Quandoo have rated the restaurant 5.8 out of 6, and it is consistently recognised as one of Singapore's best-value omakase experiences — fine dining without pretence, at what the team calls sincerest prices.
MIYU serves lunch daily from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm (last order 1:30 pm) and dinner from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm (last order 8:30 pm). Reservations can be made by call or WhatsApp at +65 8028 3168 — the team notes they may not answer during service, so a WhatsApp message is the reliable route. You'll find the restaurant at Dempsey Hill, 13A Dempsey Road, Singapore 247694, an easy drive from Orchard Road and the CBD.
