Dr Kevin Ong graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1985. Before founding The Dentist@Orchard, he built up experience across government service and private practice, both in Singapore and during almost 10 years working in the West End of London. That mix of public and private, local and international experience shapes the clinic's approach to general and aesthetic dentistry today.
Dr Ong's particular passion has always been aesthetic dentistry. Frustrated by the techniques available earlier in his career, he was challenged to develop Smiledesign, a procedure that transforms smiles quickly and comfortably without moving teeth the way conventional braces do. Using various aspects of dentistry together, Smiledesign sculpts aesthetic, natural-looking smiles, and Dr Ong has now performed over a thousand smile transformations — enough that what once looked like complex cases have become routine work for him.
The clinic draws a distinction between aesthetic and cosmetic dentistry: aesthetic dentistry aims for smiles that look beautiful, natural and youthful while balancing function and durability, whereas cosmetic dentistry is more about masking or hiding a defect in a way observers can notice has been altered. Alongside its aesthetic work, The Dentist@Orchard handles the full range of general dental treatment: check-ups, fillings, tooth extractions, and wisdom tooth extractions. Root canal treatment is also offered for teeth affected by decay or injury — where the dental pulp becomes inflamed, the clinic removes the infected nerve tissue, cleans the tooth out, and seals it, saving the tooth from extraction rather than pulling it. Local anaesthesia is used throughout so patients don't feel pain during the procedure, though it can require more than one visit given the complex structure of root canals.
