About Emergent Performance

Emergent Performance is Wellington's Elite and Sports Physiotherapy centre, based at Elevate Gym in Lyall Bay. The clinic is led by director and lead physiotherapist Chris Marshall, who has a decade of experience treating clients in Wellington and overseas, including work as Lead Physiotherapist for the Wellington Saints, Wellington Rugby and Wellington Boxing Gym.

The clinic offers ACC injury management, hands-on mobilisation and manipulation, strapping, injury education, exercise prescription, dry needling and personal training, taking a holistic approach built around personalised treatment plans for each client's needs and goals.

Emergent Performance's ethos is inspired by the emergent layer of a forest — the tallest trees that push through adversity to reach sunlight and grow stronger. The clinic applies that idea to human resilience and recovery, aiming to provide a supportive, uplifting environment that helps clients grow and reach the next level, whether they are elite athletes or weekend warriors.

Emergent Performance: Elite and Sports Physiotherapy in Wellington

Emergent Performance is Wellington's Elite and Sports Physiotherapy centre, based at Elevate Gym on Kingsford Smith Street in Lyall Bay. The clinic is led by director and lead physiotherapist Chris Marshall, who brings a decade of experience treating a wide range of injuries and conditions for clients in Wellington and overseas.

A Philosophy Rooted in Nature

The clinic's name and ethos are drawn from the emergent layer of a forest — the tallest trees that stand above the canopy, fighting through adversity to reach sunlight, growing back stronger after being broken by changing seasons and climates. Emergent Performance applies that idea to human resilience, believing that everyone has the capacity to become their own "emergent layer" through recovery and growth.

Experience Across High-Performance Sport

Chris Marshall's background includes running a private practice while serving as Lead Physiotherapist for several top-level teams, including the Wellington Saints, Wellington Rugby, and the Wellington Boxing Gym. That experience spans high-performance sport — basketball, boxing and rugby — through to everyday "weekend warriors" managing injuries or looking to improve their health.

Services on Offer

Emergent Performance's core services include ACC injury management, hands-on mobilisation and manipulation, strapping, injury education, exercise prescription and dry needling. On the appointments side, the clinic offers Initial and Follow-up Consultations for ACC clients, an Initial Private Consultation and Private Physiotherapy Follow-Up for private clients, an Extended Follow-up Consultation, and Online Consultations for those unable to attend in person.

Beyond core physiotherapy, the clinic also runs a Private Strapping Clinic, offers standalone Cupping or Dry Needling sessions, and provides Personal Training for clients wanting structured exercise support.

A Holistic, Personalised Approach

Emergent Performance describes its approach as holistic, working with each client to build a personalised treatment plan suited to their specific needs and goals — whether that's recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or improving general health and wellbeing. The clinic's stated aim is to create a supportive and uplifting environment that helps clients grow and push toward the next level.
