Pedal Project, formerly Kiwivelo Wellington, is a bike shop at 158 Victoria Street, Te Aro, Wellington, near the corner of Victoria and Dixon Street. Well established servicing Wellington cyclists for years, the shop is run by an experienced and knowledgeable team who only stock brands they know and trust — if they won't ride it, they won't sell it.
Pedal Project stocks Pinarello, Focus (known for its German engineering), Norco, Cervelo, Felt and Trek bikes. The team is made up of passionate cyclists with backgrounds spanning tour riding, enduro racing, triathlon, cyclo cross and just cruising around, giving them broad first-hand experience to draw on when advising customers.
The shop is owned and operated by Shane Collett and his partner Rachael, herself a high-achieving cyclist and triathlete. Shane grew up in Rotorua and worked in the cycle industry from a young age, building, fixing and selling bikes, before purchasing Penny Farthing Cycles and running it successfully for several years. He later helped build the Wellington store for KiwiVelo before purchasing it himself, at which point the store broke away from the KiwiVelo branding to become Pedal Project Wellington.

Shane's cycling career started young — he grew up in Rotorua and worked in the cycle industry from an early age, building, fixing and ultimately selling bikes, all while riding and racing competitively as a school boy. He was later offered a job at Penny Farthing Cycles, a company he went on to purchase and run successfully for several years, before moving into a sales role.
After a number of years in sales, Shane was asked to help build the Wellington store for KiwiVelo. He was soon offered the opportunity to purchase the store outright, and did so — at which point the Wellington operation broke away from the KiwiVelo branding and evolved into what is now Pedal Project Wellington.
The team at Pedal Project are all passionate cyclists, with backgrounds spanning tour riding, enduro racing, triathlon, cyclo cross and simply cruising around. Between them, there's very little in the world of cycling they haven't experienced, and that depth of knowledge shows in the advice they offer customers.
For a desirable, life-changing purchase, Pedal Project stocks Pinarello — a single ride is often enough to understand why the brand has such a reputation. The Focus range brings German engineering and strong performance credentials, while Norco is a reminder of just how much fun riding a bike can be, without sacrificing speed. The shop also carries Cervelo, Felt and Trek, rounding out a range covering road, mountain, triathlon and everyday riding.
Pedal Project services all makes and models of bikes, from mountain bikes to road bikes, commuter bikes and e-bikes. The workshop offers a General Service — covering safety, gear, brake, bolt and tyre checks, lubrication, cable care, bottom bracket, hub and headset checks, and a basic wheel true — as well as a more thorough Premium Service, which adds a full drivetrain clean, full hub, headset and bottom bracket service, tensioned wheel truing, and a rim tape check.
Beyond scheduled servicing, the workshop handles bicycle assembly and custom builds, brake bleeding, suspension servicing, wheel truing and building, fork fitting, and tyre and tube fitting. A basic safety check — confirming the bike is safe to ride and tyres are properly inflated — is offered at no charge, though it doesn't include a full service. For riders wanting their position properly dialled in, Pedal Project also offers a Bike Fit using the VeloGicFit 3D System, taking 45 to 60 minutes.
Booking is always preferred for workshop services, since the shop gets busy and the team aims to offer same-day turnaround wherever possible. Pedal Project can also help customers ship a bike, offering a boxing service and arranging shipping quotes based on the destination and bike involved.
