Laurenson Chartered Accountants is a Wellington-region accounting firm with an Upper Hutt office at 124 Main Street, alongside its main Glenside office. The firm describes its approach as providing advice when a business needs it, not just when asked — building one-on-one relationships with clients so advice can be tailored to each business's specific goals.
Laurenson offers a full range of accounting and advisory services, including financial and management accounting, growth programmes, taxation and rental property advice, cash flow forecasting and budgeting, business sale and purchase support, business start-up and company formation, trust and estate planning, and process and systems improvement. The firm works with clients across a range of industries, including not-for-profit organisations, food and beverage, manufacturing, professional services, trade services, and retail and wholesale businesses.
As a Xero Platinum Partner, Laurenson also partners with Spotlight Reporting and iPayroll to help clients manage day-to-day accounting, reporting and payroll using modern cloud-based tools. The firm's directors — Avril Hillind, Arran Stone and Keitha McClure — bring a combined background across chartered accounting, business advisory and commercial sectors.
Laurenson Chartered Accountants operates an Upper Hutt office at 124 Main Street, giving businesses in the area access to a full-service accounting and advisory firm without needing to travel into central Wellington. The firm's guiding promise is to provide advice when a business needs it — not just when the client thinks to ask for it — built on one-on-one relationships that let the team tailor advice to each client's specific circumstances.
Laurenson covers the full spectrum of accounting needs, from financial and management accounting through to more specialised services like trust and estate planning and business sale and purchase support. Cash flow forecasting and budgeting, taxation and rental property advice, and business start-up and company formation services round out a offering designed to support businesses at every stage, from initial set-up through to succession or sale.
Beyond standard compliance work, Laurenson runs dedicated Growth Programmes for clients who want to actively improve their business performance. This includes tracking KPIs, interim reporting, and goal setting — services reflected in the firm's tiered Aspire package, which combines interim monitoring and budgeting with tax planning and compliance for businesses focused on growth.
The Laurenson team works with clients across a wide spread of industries, including not-for-profit organisations, food and beverage businesses, manufacturers, professional services contractors, trade services businesses, and retail and wholesale operators. Each industry group comes with its own tailored advice — from setting up Xero for a charity's day-to-day transactions to benchmarking a hospitality business against others in its sector, to helping newly self-employed contractors get their GST and income tax obligations sorted from day one.
As a Xero Platinum Partner, Laurenson helps clients get the most out of cloud accounting, and also partners with Spotlight Reporting for clearer business performance insights and iPayroll for payroll management. These partnerships are aimed at giving clients modern, streamlined systems rather than relying on manual, paper-based processes.
Laurenson is led by three directors. Avril Hillind, a Chartered Accountant since 1986, works across both business clients and not-for-profit organisations, and volunteers as a trustee of a local community centre and financial advisor to Parents Centres NZ. Arran Stone, who joined the firm in 2015 and became a director in 2019, focuses on small and medium businesses looking to grow using cloud accounting systems. Keitha McClure, a Chartered Accountant with more than 13 years of NZ business advisory experience, joined as director in 2025, bringing her own client base and experience across residential and commercial property, hospitality, telecommunications and fund management sectors.
The Upper Hutt office, entered via Geange Street, operates on set drop-in hours of Tuesday and Thursday, 9am to 4pm. Outside of these hours, clients can still arrange an appointment by contacting the firm directly. The office can be reached on +64 4 477 1801 or by emailing [email protected].
