He spent years honing his skills and perfecting recipes, working through a decade of failures, struggles and small wins before getting the opportunity to open a store in the newly refurbished Lynn Mall shopping centre food court.
The response to that first food court branch was fantastic, and Satish quickly signed up for two more leases at Westfield Downtown and Manukau Shopping Centres. This time the banks weren't willing to lend the extra money, so Satish signed both leases on faith that he would find the money needed before his cheque was cashed — a leap that paid off.
By 2019, Satish had built Shamiana into an empire of 50 stores across New Zealand and Australia. Today, the Shamiana group employs more than 170 people across both countries, with the Bayfair store in Mount Maunganui part of that wider network.
The Bayfair location is run by Praveen, who oversees the store's day-to-day operations and customer service within the Bayfair Shopping Centre food court.
