About Macau Bar Kitchen & Lounge
Macau Bar Kitchen & Lounge is an award-winning restaurant located on Tauranga's waterfront, recognised by the Bay of Plenty Restaurant Association as Most Outstanding Restaurant and featured with a TripAdvisor award. Macau is all about pan-Asian cuisine with spices from the Silk Road, with the added fusion of the Pacific.
Inspired by the communal eating philosophy of the Asian table, the menu is made of dishes created for sharing, encouraging the spirit of eating together so guests can try many flavours in one night - ordering a few dishes to start, then more as appetite desires. Produce is sourced as fresh, sustainable and local as possible: chicken is free range, beef, lamb and pork are NZ and pasture raised, salmon comes from the South Island, and fresh fish comes from the East Coast. Food is brought to the table the moment it's ready.
Above the restaurant sits Macau Lounge, a large private venue hire space suited to corporate functions, meetings, weddings and special occasions, offering great wines, craft and tap beers, cocktails, canapés and banquet options, alongside stunning water views.
Macau Bar Kitchen & Lounge: Pan-Asian Sharing Plates on Tauranga's Waterfront
Macau Bar Kitchen & Lounge is an award-winning restaurant on Tauranga's waterfront, recognised by the Bay of Plenty Restaurant Association as Most Outstanding Restaurant. The kitchen is built around pan-Asian cuisine, drawing on spices from the Silk Road with an added fusion of Pacific flavours.
Built for Sharing
Inspired by the communal eating philosophy of the Asian table, the menu is designed entirely around dishes made for sharing. The idea is simple - order a few dishes to start, then keep ordering as your appetite desires, experiencing many flavours across one meal rather than committing to a single plate. Dishes come to the table the moment they're ready, keeping the pace of the meal relaxed and social.
From Small Plates to Signature Mains
The menu ranges widely, from a Poke Bowl with soy ginger caramel marinade and wakame seaweed, to a Crispy Lamb Bowl 'Bi Bim Bap' topped with a fried egg, and Macau Duck Pancakes with confit duck leg and orange tamarind sauce. Mains lean into slow-cooked comfort - a Butter Chicken Curry finished with kasuri methi, a Lamb Shank on crispy duck fat potatoes with a spicy Asian plum sauce, and a Beef Cheeks Massaman Curry built on aromatic cumin, cinnamon and nutmeg. A dedicated Raw Section covers Salmon Sashimi and Pacific Raw Fish Snapper, while sides like Kimchi and Cross Hatch Fries round out the table.
Sourced With Care
Macau sources its produce as fresh, sustainable and local as possible. Chicken is free range, beef, lamb and pork are NZ and pasture raised, salmon comes from the South Island, and fresh fish comes from the East Coast - a commitment that runs through the entire sharing-style menu.
Banquets and Groups
For larger tables, Macau offers Jade, Gold and Emperor's Banquet set menus for four or more people, along with a note that any table of more than eight receives one bill. The restaurant is upfront that while many dishes are marked gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian or vegan, it cannot guarantee dishes are completely free of nut or shellfish traces - guests are asked to flag any allergy requirements.
Macau Lounge
Upstairs, Macau Lounge offers a large private venue hire space for corporate functions, meetings, weddings and special occasions, serving great wines, craft and tap beers, cocktails, canapés and banquet options, paired with Macau's Asian fusion menu and stunning water views.
