Baking wasn't always her passion - she only discovered her hand for cake artistry after deciding to make her own children's birthday cakes rather than buy them. The comments she received convinced her to start making cakes for others, and from there her cake craft blossomed into the business known today. On 28 March 2022, she began the next chapter as Fanciful Cakes.
By November 2023, business was booming and Merenia's exclusive Boujee Bars were trending. What started as a small home-based venture had, by July 2025, become a full cake, bakery and chocolate shop with a team of seven, drawing customers from across Aotearoa and even from Australia. The team even tried a pop-up store in Tauranga, learning valuable lessons about scaling before deciding to dial things back and expand more gradually.
In January 2026, the business rebranded to House of Boujee Sweets as part of a more aligned vision. Since then, the rebrand has proven a success, with Merenia describing the business as flourishing and welcoming a steady stream of new customers.

For customers who can't make it in person, House of Boujee Sweets dispatches orders by courier - Boujee Bars are sent Tuesday to Thursday, and baked goods Wednesday to Thursday. The shop takes reasonable precautions when packing, particularly given that warm weather can cause items to melt in transit, though once collected by the courier, items are no longer in the shop's care.
