Turkish Kitchen is Mosgiel's go-to spot for authentic, high-quality Turkish cuisine, run by owner Emrah, who has been working in kitchens since the age of 12 in Turkey. With years of experience in top Dunedin restaurants and a lifelong love for cooking, Emrah brings the flavours of Turkey to Mosgiel, using the freshest ingredients to create healthy, delicious meals.
The menu is built around doner kebabs and Turkish grill classics, with combo deals bundling a kebab, drink and fries, alongside pita pockets, wraps and containers. Diners can choose from NZ lamb, chicken, a chicken-and-lamb combination, or vegetarian options like falafel and zucchini across most dishes. The mains menu extends to Iskender, a range of Shish Kebabs, and a Turkish Mix Grill, while entrées and sides cover garlic bread, hummus and salads, and dessert brings baklava and Turkish delight.
Turkish Kitchen is described as Emrah's dream come true, serving up what the restaurant calls the best kebabs in town.
Turkish Kitchen has built its reputation as Mosgiel's go-to spot for authentic, high-quality Turkish cuisine, run by owner Emrah. Emrah has been working in kitchens since the age of 12 in Turkey, and after years of experience in top Dunedin restaurants and a lifelong love for cooking, he opened Turkish Kitchen as what the restaurant describes as his dream come true.
At the heart of the menu sits the doner kebab, offered as a Pita Pocket, Wrap or Container, each served with salad, hummus and a choice of two sauces. Every one of these comes with a choice of protein — NZ lamb, chicken, a chicken-and-lamb combination, or vegetarian options in the form of falafel or zucchini — so the same base format stretches to suit a wide range of diners. For a fuller meal, the Kebab Combo bundles a kebab with a drink and fries, while the Combo Meat option pairs a choice of chips or rice with a drink and hummus.
The mains section widens things out with Iskender — meat served over rice or chips with fresh salad, hummus, pita bread and a choice of sauces — alongside a range of Shish Kebabs available as chicken, lamb or kofta, a Combination Shish, and a Vegetarian Shish, all served as a wrap, in pita bread, or in a container with salad and hummus. For anyone especially hungry, the Turkish Mix Grill offers a larger combination plate, and Meat on Rice or Chips gives a simpler, no-fuss option with hummus and a choice of sauces.
Turkish Kitchen also caters to younger diners with a dedicated Kid Meal - Doner, served with lettuce, carrot and a choice of rice or fries, available with either NZ lamb or chicken.
Rounding out the menu, Garlic Bread arrives as three pieces of pita bread with garlic butter and parsley, and Hummus is served with pita bread and olive oil. A Mixed Salad, chosen from the restaurant's salad bar, and a Tabouli Salad give lighter options alongside the heartier kebab dishes. To finish, Turkish Kitchen offers traditional Baklava and Turkish Delight, keeping the meal authentically Turkish from start to finish.
What comes through in Turkish Kitchen's own story is a genuine passion for the food. Emrah's decades in the kitchen, starting as a child in Turkey and continuing through top Dunedin restaurants, shape a menu built on fresh ingredients and healthy, satisfying meals rather than shortcuts. The result, as the restaurant puts it, is simply "the best kebabs in Mosgiel."
