Lansdowne Kindergarten is a childcare and early education centre at 30c Totara Street in Lansdowne, Masterton, and part of Whānau Manaaki Kindergartens, a not-for-profit running more than 100 kindergartens and home-based services across the lower North Island.
New Zealand kindergartens are teacher-led and community-based: qualified, registered early childhood teachers run the sessions, and learning follows Te Whāriki, the national curriculum, with much of the day given to play — sand and water, building, dress-ups, time outside. Most are not-for-profit, so costs stay reasonable, and parents of three- and four-year-olds can generally use the government's 20 Hours ECE. A visit during session time shows what matters: how teachers settle a new child, and how well the outdoor space gets used. Popular kindergartens fill quickly, so registering interest early is worth doing.
