Positive Pelvic Health is an in-home pelvic health physiotherapy clinic run by Jennifer Dutton, based in Maungaraki, Lower Hutt, serving women across the Greater Wellington region. Jennifer started her physiotherapy career in the UK's National Health Service in 2005, moved to New Zealand in 2008 to work as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist (including time at Les Mills Hutt City and alongside Netball Hutt Valley), and established Positive Pelvic Health in 2018.
Jennifer holds a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy and a BSc (Hons) in Applied Biology, and takes a holistic approach to pelvic health, combining postural and bio-mechanical analysis, acupuncture and dry needling, manual therapy techniques and personalised exercise regimes. As a mum of four boys herself, she brings first-hand experience to her pregnancy and postnatal work alongside her broader pelvic health practice.
Her services cover bladder and bowel issues, vaginal wall prolapse, pelvic and perineal pain, post-surgical pelvic floor management, pregnancy and postnatal care, and Holistic Pelvic Care™, with the goal of helping women at all stages of life understand their bodies and build individualised rehabilitation strategies.
Jennifer Dutton's path to founding Positive Pelvic Health started a long way from Lower Hutt. She began her physiotherapy career in 2005 with the UK's National Health Service, before moving to New Zealand three years later. Once here, she worked as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist at Les Mills Hutt City and alongside Netball Hutt Valley, building experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, including female athletes and sportspeople, and developing a particular interest in persistent and chronic pain conditions through postgraduate study.
In 2018, that experience came together in Positive Pelvic Health, an in-home clinic based in Maungaraki, Lower Hutt, focused specifically on pelvic health physiotherapy for women across the Greater Wellington region.
Jennifer describes her method as holistic and wide-ranging, drawing on postural and bio-mechanical analysis, acupuncture and dry needling, manual therapy techniques, and personalised exercise regimes. The underlying idea is that when a woman understands what's actually happening in her body, she's better equipped to make lifestyle changes and follow through on her own rehabilitation plan. As a mum of four boys herself, Jennifer brings personal experience to the pregnancy and postnatal side of her work in particular, alongside her broader pelvic health practice.
Positive Pelvic Health covers a specific set of conditions rather than general physiotherapy. Bladder and bowel issues — including incontinence, frequency, urgency, constipation and related pain — are treated with a mix of strategies and exercises. Vaginal wall prolapse, where pelvic organs descend from their normal position, is addressed through education and a tailored rehabilitation programme, aimed at resolving the heavy or dragging symptoms that often come with it.
Pelvic and perineal pain, which can arise from pregnancy, childbirth, surgery, trauma, endometriosis, or hormonal changes around perimenopause and menopause, is approached by building a pain management toolbox women can draw on regularly. Post-surgical pelvic floor management is also on offer, helping women understand what to expect and how to manage symptoms in the weeks and months after a procedure.
Pregnancy and postnatal care is a particular focus area. Jennifer works with women to stay active and confident as pregnancy progresses, relieve pelvic and low back pain, and connect with the pelvic floor ahead of labour to support an easier birth and smoother recovery. Postnatally, consultations review the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles — especially important after a long or difficult labour or a caesarean section — and address issues like perineal tears, wound healing, and abdominal separation (diastasis recti), alongside guidance on returning safely to exercise or sport.
From 1 April 2026, an initial consultation with Positive Pelvic Health costs $250, with follow-up consultations priced at $150. For clients eligible under ACC, the initial consultation is $170.66 and follow-up consultations are $90.50.
Positive Pelvic Health operates as a paperless business, storing client information in encrypted electronic health record systems in line with the Privacy Act 2020 and the Health Information Privacy Code 2020, and retains health records for 10 years as required under New Zealand law.
