Connolly Street Medical is a general practice in the heart of Hutt Central, seeing patients from Suite 3 at 2 Connolly Street in the 'Verve on Connolly' building, Lower Hutt. It offers everyday GP care backed by a genuinely broad clinical team: eight doctors led by Clinical Director Dr Chris Kenny — alongside Dr Mona Elbalshy, Dr Hugh McCabe, Dr David Young, Dr Rosanna Rahman, Dr James Laurent, Dr Priya Ravishankar and Dr Andrew Williams — supported by a nursing team, a clinical pharmacist, a health improvement practitioner and a health coach. Practice manager Nicky McGeorge and the reception team keep the day running, and Tu Ora Compass Health supports the practice as its Primary Health Organisation. It's a notably wide line-up for a suburban general practice.
The practice is also a Cornerstone accredited teaching practice for the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. A GP trainee — a registrar — works alongside the partners as part of their training, changing every six months, and a house surgeon on community placement often joins the team on a three-month rotation. That arrangement gives patients access to an extra doctor while the trainee gains supervised experience across the full scope of general practice.
Practical access matters here too: same-day appointments are offered, early morning appointments run from 7.30am, and bookings can be made online through the ManageMyHealth portal or by phone.

It's a notably wide line-up for a suburban general practice, and one that lets care happen close to home.
One thing that sets the practice apart is its role in training the next generation of GPs. Connolly Street Medical is a Cornerstone accredited teaching practice for the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners, which means a GP trainee — a registrar — works alongside the partners as part of their training. The registrar changes every six months, and a house surgeon on community placement is often part of the team as well, joining on a three-month rotation. The arrangement gives patients access to an extra doctor while the trainee gains supervised experience across the full scope of general practice.
Same-day appointments are a core part of how the practice works, and it opens for early morning appointments from 7.30am — Tuesday is the early-start day, opening at 7:30am, with Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday running 8:30am to 5:30pm. The practice is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Appointments can be booked online through ManageMyHealth or by phone on (04) 569 5601. Early slots suit patients fitting care around work or school runs. One practical note: the website contact form is not for appointments or repeat prescriptions — phone or the portal are the right channels.
From 5 January 2026, the practice requires payment on the day for all appointments and prescription requests. ManageMyHealth bookings are paid online before confirmation, and in-person appointments are paid at check-in. If you'd prefer a regular automatic payment on your account, the practice manager can arrange that. Prescribing has changed too: from 1 February, some patients with stable long-term health conditions may be able to receive prescriptions lasting up to 12 months. Eligibility is not automatic — your doctor decides what is safe based on your health, medications and monitoring needs, and many people will not qualify. If you take regular medication, it's a worthwhile conversation at your next visit.
The practice asks patients to let them know before an appointment if they have any flu-like symptoms — cough, cold, fever or sore throat — or have had contact with a known or suspected COVID-19 case, so the necessary precautions can be in place. When the clinic is closed, after-hours information is available on the practice's website. An updated Health Information Privacy Statement also reflects recent changes to the Privacy Act; as the practice puts it, your health record belongs to you — you can see it, ask for corrections and find out how it has been used.
Whether you're a long-standing patient or considering enrolling, Connolly Street Medical combines the continuity of an established Hutt Valley practice with the depth of a teaching team — experienced GPs, dedicated nurses, a clinical pharmacist and wellbeing support, all under one roof at 2 Connolly Street. New patients can find enrolment details on the practice's website.
