Ātaahua Studio is a Hamilton sanctuary on Hukanui Road in Rototuna where natural beauty, holistic wellbeing and traditional Māori healing come together. Founder Victoria — Vicky — welcomes clients with warmth and more than two decades of experience: a Wintec-trained beauty and spa therapist (2004), a Phi Academy certified cosmetic eyebrow tattoo artist (2018) specialising in microblading, powder and ombre brows, and a practitioner of rongoā Māori who trained with a Māori Tohungā in 2007.
The studio's kaupapa is that to be ātaahua means being beautiful in body, mind and soul. That philosophy shows in the menu: precision cosmetic brow work, brow lamination and henna tints, massage and beauty treatments, and deeply grounded Māori healing including mirimiri, romiromi and selenite crystal therapy. Ātaahua is also an ACC vendor offering ACC-funded rongoā Māori mirimiri, supporting injury recovery for tinana, hinengaro and wairua at no cost to eligible clients.

Whether you arrive for a brow transformation or a session of traditional Māori bodywork, the intention is the same: that you leave feeling empowered and worthy.
The face that greets you belongs to Vicky, whose pepeha connects her to the Tainui waka, the Waipa river and Ngāti Maahanga of Waikato. She graduated in beauty and spa therapy from Wintec in 2004, then became a certified cosmetic eyebrow tattoo artist with the prestigious Phi Academy in 2018, specialising in microblading (feathering), powder and ombre techniques. She continues to up-skill with talented national and international cosmetic tattoo artists. In parallel, she trained with a Māori Tohungā in 2007 and specialises in rongoā Māori — traditional Māori medicine that understands how the physical (kikokiko), emotional (hinengaro) and spiritual (wairua) weave together in a person's health.
Ātaahua is best known for cosmetic eyebrow tattoo. Vicky offers the full spectrum of techniques: microblading for the most natural look, powder brows for a soft make-up finish, ombre brows that fade from a gentle start to a defined tail, and combination brows — the 'hybrid' that blends feather strokes at the front with powdered tails. Every tattoo service includes a 6-8 week perfecting session, and a proper consultation comes first, including shaping, drawing and a skin sensitivity test. Not everyone is a candidate: tattoos cannot be performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for those prone to keloid scarring, or on certain medications.
Prefer to skip the needle? Brow lamination creates that full, fluffy, lifted look for up to six weeks, while Elleebana brow henna tints — vegan friendly and free of ammonia and peroxide — stain skin and hair for weeks.
The heart of the studio is its healing room. Mirimiri is deeply relaxing and grounding; romiromi goes deeper, a multi-layered bodywork; and Romiromi Hōhonu, the longest treatment, weaves together massage, wairuatanga, Te Whe sound healing, sacred geometry, warm healing stones and wai tapu. There is selenite crystal therapy, aromatherapy massage using Young Living and doTERRA oils, and hot stone work with warmed mustard and red jasper quartz kohatu.
Ātaahua is also an ACC vendor, which means eligible clients recovering from an injury may access rongoā Māori mirimiri through ACC at no cost — a rare and meaningful path to culturally grounded care.
Around the brows and healing work sits a complete beauty therapy menu: the Relax Package (back, neck and shoulder massage plus a custom facial — the studio's most popular gift), pregnancy massage, sugar back scrubs infused with karengo and mamaku, the native-botanical Rongoā Facial, lash lifts and tints, waxing, spray tanning with Moroccan Tan and Bondi Sands, and manicures and pedicures.
