Obsidian Ink Sumner Tattoo is a tattoo studio at 124 Sumnervale Drive in Sumner, Christchurch, in the seaside village about 25 minutes from the city centre. The artist has a fine-arts background and works in black and grey or full colour. Styles on the site include fine geometric work, realistic and stylised florals, native New Zealand ferns, portraits of people and pets, watercolour, and traditional work drawn from Celtic, Indian and Egyptian sources. The artist says she does not offer Ta Moko, but works in Pacifica styles, including Kirituhi. Memorial pieces are also offered, and gift vouchers can be bought online.
Each booking starts with a free consultation. The studio says it is bloodborne pathogen certified and uses regulated inks and disposable supplies. Sessions run from 11am to 5pm and from 7pm into the evening, Monday to Friday, and visitors are asked to request an appointment time. Free parking is right outside, and a cup of tea or coffee is offered on arrival. Payment can be made in cash on pickup, by PayPal, or by internet banking.
