About Sumner Community Pool

A community swimming pool at 16 Hardwicke Street in Sumner, Christchurch, run by volunteers for more than 50 years. Access is by key, which is issued to a household, and visitors pay the admission fee in the honesty box. The website says the pool suits swimmers of all ages and has a retro coastal feel.

Key holders may use the pool during school term from 6am to 10am and from 3pm to 8.30pm on weekdays, and from 6am to 8.30pm on weekends. Running, diving, bombing and sliding along the edge are not allowed, and no alcohol or glass is permitted inside the pool gate. Children under 5 must be accompanied in the water by someone over 16, and children aged 5 to 8 must be actively supervised. Under-16s need a parent or guardian outside public hours.

Key holders over 18 can volunteer for rostered duties during the season. Questions and incident reports can be emailed to the pool committee.
