NARRA Massage & Spa is a wellness sanctuary in the heart of Edgeware, Christchurch, where Filipino warmth meets modern, minimalist wellness. The space is thoughtfully designed with sound-deadening walls and soft, low lighting to create a deeply calming atmosphere, and every treatment is personalised, unhurried and delivered with intention — focused on your comfort and wellbeing from the moment you arrive.
The spa's name comes from the Philippine national tree, a symbol of strength, resilience and natural beauty. Its treatments honour Filipino healing practices such as hilot, warm coconut oil with hot towel therapy, blended with modern massage techniques. Guests can choose a calming relaxation massage, deep tissue work, the grounding warmth of traditional hilot, or a dual-therapist massage delivered by two therapists working in perfect harmony.
The team is led by head therapist Julie, who brings more than ten years of experience, joined by Marijean and Papsie (each with over five years) and Hazel, trained in authentic hilot techniques. Beyond standard treatments, NARRA offers extended bookings of three hours or more, group bookings for up to five people, easily booked couples massages, and fully customisable pressure and focus.
NARRA is a professional wellness spa and does not offer sensual services. Book online or by phone; if a call isn't answered, the team will text back, usually within 15–30 minutes, so you can call again.
NARRA Massage & Spa sits in the heart of Edgeware, Christchurch, and was created with a simple purpose: to offer the city a place of genuine care, cultural warmth and deeply restorative healing. The moment you step inside, the intention is clear. Sound-deadening walls quiet the world outside, soft low lighting replaces harsh glare, and the modern, minimalist space is designed to feel calm, grounded and welcoming — a retreat where you can slow down, breathe and reconnect with yourself.
Here, massage is treated as more than a treatment. Every session is personalised, unhurried and delivered with intention, with the team's focus fixed on your comfort and wellbeing from arrival to the moment you leave.
NARRA takes its name from the Philippine national tree — a symbol of strength, resilience and natural beauty. Like the tree, the spa's philosophy is rooted in tradition, balance and wellbeing. The team honours Filipino healing practices such as hilot, a traditional hands-on healing art, alongside warm coconut oil and hot towel therapy. These are blended with modern massage techniques to create a uniquely restorative experience, using natural oils, warm textures and gentle rituals that reflect the spa's cultural roots.
The treatment menu spans deep tension relief, calming relaxation massage, deep tissue work and the grounding warmth of traditional hilot — each designed to restore balance to both body and mind.
NARRA's team is small, experienced and genuinely warm. Julie, the head massage therapist, brings more than a decade of experience helping clients relax, recover and feel their best, with a practice rooted in professionalism, attention to detail and a deep understanding of body mechanics. Marijean has more than five years of experience and describes herself as a compassionate teacher, mother, sister and friend. Papsie specialises in relaxation and deep tissue techniques tailored to each client's needs, aiming to create a calm, safe space where you can unwind and recover. Hazel, trained in authentic hilot techniques, is beginning her professional practice with support from the senior therapists, guided by her motto: "inhale strength, exhale stress."
Two experiences set NARRA apart. The first is the dual-therapist massage: two therapists working in perfect harmony, each specially trained to deliver left- and right-side movements simultaneously for a balanced, deeply immersive full-body session. It can be booked online or by phone.
The second is customisation. Guests simply talk to their therapist during the service — choosing soft, medium or firm pressure, or asking for extra focus on a particular area. Firm pressure carries a small surcharge that goes directly to the therapist as a bonus.
Some of NARRA's most distinctive offerings came straight from clients. Extended bookings beyond two hours are possible by booking therapists in sequence, allowing sessions of three hours or more — and because therapists get at least a fifteen-minute break every two hours wherever possible, they arrive at your table rested and at their full potential. Group bookings cater for up to five people simultaneously, for up to two hours, with at least 24 hours' notice so the team can arrange therapists; couples massages, meanwhile, are easy to book online at any time.
NARRA is a professional wellness spa and does not offer sensual services — a point the team states plainly and proudly. Booking is done online or by phone; if a call isn't picked up, the team will text back, usually within 15 to 30 minutes, to let you know you can call again. Opening hours are 11am to 8pm on Monday and from Wednesday to Sunday, with the spa closed on Tuesdays. By booking, guests agree to the spa's terms and conditions, which cover the cancellation policy, arrival times and health considerations.
Whether you arrive for deep tension relief, a calming relaxation massage or the grounding warmth of traditional hilot, the promise is the same: a welcome of warmth, respect and genuine care, and an experience that feels personal, peaceful and deeply rejuvenating — every single visit.
