About Keystone Locks LTD

Keystone Locks is a mobile locksmith service run by Marc Austin, who brings over 42 years of experience in residential and commercial locksmithing to customers across Canterbury, including Banks Peninsula (conditions apply). Marc works out of a fully equipped mobile workshop, travelling to customers rather than operating from a shop premises.

The service covers the full range of everyday locksmith needs: cutting keys to factory code, duplicating keys, extracting broken keys, picking or opening locks, rekeying and keying-alike, and installing or replacing locks, deadbolts, padlocks, window catches and stays. Marc also works on ranch slider and French door hooks and patio bolts, garage tilter and roller doors, and takes on both residential jobs (key cutting, lock installs, hooks, chains, catches and viewers) and commercial work (key cutting, lock installs, repairs and rekeys, and lock upgrades).

A recurring focus of the work is repairing and servicing 4-point Euro Mortice locks on hinged and bi-fold doors, which Marc notes are prone to misalignment and mechanism damage from forced or yanked handles; where appropriate, he removes the locking rods and relies on the latch and bolt instead. He stocks new and reconditioned locks across a range of budgets and carries a wide range of parts. Keystone Locks offers a free, no-obligation security survey, lock WOF, servicing and advice, along with Pensioner Gold Card, cash, and prompt payment discounts. Customers describe Marc as knowledgeable, prompt and thorough, often flagging additional security issues while on-site.

Keystone Locks: Mobile Locksmith Across Canterbury

When a lock jams, a key snaps, or a door won't latch properly, most people just need someone who knows locks to turn up and sort it. That's the core of Keystone Locks, a mobile locksmith service run by Marc Austin, who brings more than 42 years of experience in residential and commercial locksmithing to jobs across Canterbury, including Banks Peninsula.

A fully equipped mobile workshop

Rather than working from a shop, Marc operates out of a fully equipped mobile workshop, travelling to homes and businesses to handle the job on-site. The everyday work covers broken key extraction, key duplication, and cutting keys to factory code, plus lock picking and opening, rekeying and keying-alike, and installation or replacement of locks, deadbolts, padlocks, window catches and stays. He also fits hardware for ranch sliders, French doors, garage tilter and roller doors, and takes on both residential jobs (key cutting, lock installs, hooks, chains, catches and viewers) and commercial work (key cutting, lock installs, repairs, rekeys and lock upgrades).

A specialty in Euro Mortice locks

A significant part of the work involves 4-point Euro Mortice locks, common on single-hinged and bi-fold doors, which use rods at the top and bottom of the door alongside a central latch and bolt. Marc notes these mechanisms are frequently damaged when a lever handle is yanked or forced, snapping the latch or cradle arms and making the lock difficult or impossible to operate. His view, based on years of seeing these locks fail, is that the rods often cause more problems than they solve, and in many cases removing them and relying on the latch and bolt alone is the more reliable long-term fix. Some Euro locks are factory sealed and can't be fully opened for repair, in which case Marc gives them a check-over and light service instead.

One example from the site: a customer's 4-point lock on an aluminium French door had broken completely, requiring the rods to be removed to fit a replacement. The same customer had five other aluminium hinged doors with drooping handles from being knocked around, so Marc suggested a lock WOF — returning two weeks later to remove, inspect, and service each lock and straighten the twisted spindles connecting the handles.

Stock, parts and a free check-up

Keystone Locks stocks new and reconditioned locks across a range of budgets, along with a wide range of parts, and Marc will also install locks a customer has already purchased if they suit the door. The business runs an ongoing offer of a free, no-obligation security survey, lock WOF, servicing and advice — a way to catch worn or misaligned locks before they fail outright.

Friendly, prompt service

Customer reviews describe Marc as knowledgeable, prompt, and willing to go the extra mile — one customer mentioned he spotted and flagged a door latch that wasn't closing properly while repairing an unrelated lock issue, and another described him fitting window safety stays along with maintenance tips. Keystone Locks also offers Pensioner Gold Card, cash, and prompt payment discounts, alongside quotes for WINZ and insurance work.

Getting help fast

For lockouts, Marc's typical response time is 30 to 60 minutes, depending on location and whether he's already on another job. A 24/7 emergency line is available, with conditions applying outside standard hours.
