About Bishopdale Dove Bookshop

A large secondhand bookshop in Bishopdale Mall, at 11C Bishopdale Court in Bishopdale, Christchurch. It has been in its 300 square metre space since early 2020. The Dove Bookshop is run by St Christopher's Community Trust, a registered charitable trust, which began selling recycled books 20 years ago to fund outreach from St Christopher's Anglican Church in Avonhead. All stock is donated and recycled, which the website says keeps prices affordable, so the range depends on what has come in. The shelves cover fiction, New Zealand non-fiction, biographies, history, military, cooking, sport, art, music, gardening, craft and jigsaws, with a children's and young adults section. The sister shop next door, Arty Facts, sells jigsaws, CDs, DVDs, games, puzzles and bric-a-brac. Books can be dropped off at the back of the shop, and collection within 10 km can be arranged by calling 03 359 9869.

Reviewers describe a giant secondhand bookshop with plenty of space, tidy shelves, good lighting and a clean feel. They mention New Zealand authors, romance, classics, sci-fi and fantasy, and puzzles. Prices are described as reasonable. One reviewer says you need time to browse the shelves. Another says the staff are lovely and there is a piano to play on.
