About Spice Magic

Spice Magic Pakuranga is a family-owned Sri Lankan restaurant at 5/9 Cardiff Road in Pakuranga, Auckland, serving authentic Sri Lankan and South Indian cuisine made from scratch every day. The kitchen leans on real Sri Lankan spice blends, rich aromas and honest flavour, turning out freshly cooked meals for both dine-in and takeaway.

The story began in 2006, when the family started Spice Magic as a side hustle at a small takeaway outlet in Panmure. As word spread, demand outgrew the little shop, and in September 2011 the family opened their own restaurant on Cardiff Road — setting up the business, building the menus, prepping, cooking, serving and washing dishes themselves from day one.

Fifteen years on, Spice Magic treats its regulars as part of the family, a bond the owners credit to consistent food quality, authenticity and attentive daily service — a loyalty their customers returned even through the tough pandemic period. Their promise is simple: the quality and taste you taste today is the same it was yesterday, and the same it will be tomorrow.

Spice Magic Pakuranga: Family-Run Sri Lankan Cuisine in Auckland

On Cardiff Road in Pakuranga Heights, Spice Magic has been quietly doing what it does best for over a decade: cooking fresh Sri Lankan and South Indian food from scratch, every single day. It is a small, family-owned restaurant where the spice blends are real, the aroma is rich, and the flavour is honest — whether you're settling in for a dine-in meal or grabbing a takeaway for the family.

From a Panmure Side Hustle to a Pakuranga Restaurant

Spice Magic's story starts humbly. Back in 2006, the family began cooking at a small takeaway outlet in Panmure as a side hustle. Day by day, the customer base grew, until the demand for their food became more than the little shop could handle. After long discussions, the family made the call: it was time for a permanent home with dine-in facilities.

In September 2011, Spice Magic opened its own restaurant on Cardiff Road in Pakuranga. Nothing about it was easy — they started everything from scratch, handling the purchasing, setting up the menus, prepping and cooking, customer service, and even the kitchen-hand work entirely themselves. That hands-on start shaped the place: a kitchen where everything is still made fresh daily, with what the owners simply call lots of love.

What's Cooking

The menu covers the full arc of a Sri Lankan meal. Starters are freshly prepared bites with a crispy texture and bold spices. The idli meal pairs soft, comforting idlis with flavourful sides for a lighter, South Indian-influenced plate. The curries are the heart of the kitchen — creamy and aromatic, cooked with traditional Sri Lankan spices and herbs, with the fresh chicken curry a house highlight. Desserts round things off with sweet Sri Lankan treats made to finish a meal with comfort.

Everything is prepared fresh, using the same Sri Lankan spice blends the family has relied on since the beginning. There are no shortcuts, and that is precisely the point.

Fifteen Years of the Same Taste

Looking back after 15 years in the business, the family says Spice Magic has become more than a business — their regulars are part of their own family. There have been ups and downs, as in any business, but their customers never let them down, even through the difficult days of the global pandemic.

The owners put that bond down to two things: the quality and authenticity of the food they've maintained since the very start, and the exceptional customer service they provide every day. Their promise is a simple one — yesterday, today and tomorrow, the quality and taste of the food at Spice Magic is the same, and that will never change.
