About Cazador Restaurant & Delicatessen
Cazador Restaurant & Delicatessen has been family owned and operated since it was established in 1987, serving sustainable, local ingredients on Dominion Road. Produce, wild, organic and free range ingredients are sourced from New Zealand hunters and producers to create Cazador's house-made charcuterie selection and seasonal menus.
The restaurant offers local and international wines, craft beers, cocktails and its favourite drink of all - Sherry. Service is relaxed, the food is built around game, charcuterie and seasonal produce, and the small dining room is one-of-a-kind.
Cazador serves both a Feast menu and an à la carte menu. The Feast menu offers the complete Cazador experience and can be paired with beverages; for reservations of 8 or more, the Feast Menu is served automatically, though vegetarian options are warmly welcomed on request. Walk-ins are always welcome, but bookings are recommended.
Cazador Restaurant & Delicatessen: Game, Charcuterie and Sherry on Dominion Road
Cazador Restaurant & Delicatessen has been family owned and operated on Dominion Road since it was established in 1987, built around sustainable, local ingredients and a genuine connection to New Zealand's wild food.
Sourced From Hunters and Producers
Cazador's produce - wild, organic and free range - comes from New Zealand hunters and producers, forming the backbone of the restaurant's house-made charcuterie selection and seasonal menus. It's an approach that shows up across the menu, from venison bresaola and a game terrine through to duck parfait, all served with house made pickles, preserves and crackers.
An À La Carte Menu Built on Game and Seasonal Produce
Snacks open the à la carte menu with dishes like stuffed fried olives with venison mince and fennel mayonnaise, and lamb's tongue fries with rosemary ketchup. Starters lean into the seasonal and the unexpected - tamarillo with stracciatella, grilled venison heart with almond and guajillo chilli, and a yellowfin tuna crudo with fino creme and curry leaf.
Mains keep the focus on game and quality produce: char grilled venison with rosemary jus, a grilled pork scotch with oloroso jus, poached snapper with fennel and saffron, and a butternut gnocchi for those after a vegetarian main. Sides include crispy potatoes with fennel mayonnaise and a roasted parsnip finished with honey glaze and brioche sauce.
Sherry, the House Favourite
Cazador describes Sherry as its favourite drink of all, and that shows in the dessert and cheese menu, where dishes are paired with specific sherries - a Lustau Emilin Moscatel alongside the Guinness-treacle pudding, and a Hidalgo Alameda Cream Sherry with the dark chocolate and brandy mousse. The cheese board pairs Pink and White Terraces washed rind, Mahoe blue and aged Comte with a pear brandy, Pedro Ximenez sherry and a Central Otago fine respectively. To finish, there's Cazador's own house made 'Vishnofka' sour cherry brandy, Turkish coffee hand brewed in a copper cezve, or a pot of Libertine Blends tea.
The Feast Menu
Beyond the à la carte offering, Cazador runs a Feast menu - the complete Cazador experience, designed to be paired with beverages. For reservations of 8 or more, the Feast Menu is served automatically, though the restaurant warmly welcomes vegetarian guests and asks that dietary requirements be flagged in advance.
A One-of-a-Kind Dining Room
Cazador's dining room is small and distinctive, matched with relaxed service. Walk-ins are always welcome, though bookings are recommended given the room's size.
