In 1977, Dr Kantilal Patel and Ranjna Patel co-founded East Tamaki Healthcare as a single GP clinic in Otara, with a simple goal: improving access to affordable healthcare in South Auckland. That single practice grew steadily — by 2009 the company ran nearly 20 clinics, including the White Cross urgent care group — and in 2019 it became Tāmaki Healthcare, taking its name from the Māori word for Auckland.
